If you’ve never been to a real estate bar camp, a perfect introduction is taking place right now at the NAR Conference in Orlando. Seasoned “geeks” sit alongside technology novices in this “unconference,” where the participants decide what the topics will be and lead the discussions. Sessions here have been very free-flowing, with newbies asking questions and power-users providing tips about how they use a particular technology in their real estate business.
The first session I attended this morning was about Evernote, a program I signed up for in 2009 but really never implemented, in spite of hearing nothing but great things the whole time. Finally this year as my IRS tax extension was once again looming, I remade my annual promise to myself that I would get organized, go paperless and send my shredder into overdrive.
Most mentioned in the Evernote session was the @deanouelette’s ebook on Evernote for Real Estate. I bought it recently and it gave me the clarity I needed to see how I would use Evernote in my business. Connecticut Realtor Linda Davis started a Facebook group called Evernote for Real Estate that has become my go-to forum for Evernote questions. The REALTORS® participating in that group have tons of great ideas on implementing Evernote.
The next session I attended was on PDFExpert, an iPad app that allows you to annotate and organize PDFs, get signatures, and pull up your docs from your phone, desktop or table. The iPad app I have been using for the last year to do this is no longer sold in the App Store, and I get questions all the time from agents who are looking for a mobile PDF solution. Kristal Kraft, a Denver broker, uses PDF Expert extensively and provided great tips for attendees.
I participated in the first REBarCamp in San Francisco in 2008, organized by Todd Carpenter and Andy Kaufman. That REBarCamp was full of experienced bloggers and early adopters who had their own WordPress blogs and were amongst the first faces seen on new social media sites. The WordPress session I just attended was full of new WordPress bloggers, curious about how they would implement a blog into their business. Still a popular topic!
Looking forward to the rest of the day here learning with REALTORS® who share the tools that are working for them, and offer great suggestions about using technology to make business easier.
